MÜNSTERLÄNDER
Are you looking for a four-legged fur-baby for Christmas? The Münsterländer may be just what you are looking for. These babies are friendly, affectionate, and patient with children (making for a great Christmas present for the active family). Oh… you read, "active family." That’s right, Münsterländers are high energy dogs that require daily physical activity with a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They build a strong bond with their families and enjoy being close to people. They are happy to join in and have fun at ALL family outings.
Originating from the Münsterland region of Germany, the Münsterländer is easy to train. They are very smart and trainable, but may go through a “teenage phase” until they are around two years old. This breed is known for its retrieving skills. It enjoys bringing slippers and toys to you while in the house and may bring you a bird or two when outside.
With their strong hunting instincts, they can and probably will chase small animals. However, early socialization will aide in managing this. During the early years, be sure not to leave them alone unsupervised while you are working to socialize them around other smaller pets/animals. In fact, early and ongoing socialization is very important. The best thing you can do for your Münsterländer is to have them interact with various people, places, and other pets in order to make them well-adjusted family members
One thing to keep in mind, Münsterländers do shed. Their medium-length, dense coats shed moderately year-round. In the spring and fall you will notice heavier shedding as the seasons change. Regular brushing will help manage the shedding.
If you are interested in the Münsterländer, be sure to ask the breeder if you are getting a small or large Münsterländer. The following chart compares the large and small breeds and will help you when selecting the best Münsterländer for your family.
